Blending layers

Craig 4 years ago updated 10 months ago 9

I'm trying to blend between two animation layers, I can't see that this is possible.  A blend parameter on each layer would be very useful.

UMotion Version:
1.22p14
Unity Version:
2019.4

Hi Craig,

thank you very much for your support request.

Blending layers is possible, but the blending weight is fixed for the whole duration of the animation (it can't be animated). Click on the blue bar and drag to the left to reduce the weight:

Please let me know in case you have any follow-up questions.

Best regards,
Peter

Having that as an animated property for the purpose of creating the animation would be hugely advantageous.

Currently in UMotion's architecture, all animated properties are "per UMotion project". Meaning they are the same on all animation clips in the current UMotion project. Animation layer's (and respectively their weight properties) are per animation clip, though. That would mean that it requires some rather big changes to UMotion's current architecture to make this possible. Unfortunately due to the high amount of work this would need, I currently have no plans on adding such a feature in the near future. I'm sorry.

Peter

I would also really appreciate a way to animate layer weights. We use UMotion extensively in our project, mostly to edit and splice together animations from the asset store. I love the asset, but not being able to "fade in/out" tweaks we make on override layers is one of the most limiting factors in our workflow.

I appreciate that it goes against the grain of your architecture and would be a ton of work, but if you can think of any way we could get this to work (e.g. by letting us tie a layer's weight to a custom joint / property, or even by exposing something in the API that lets us hack together our own solution), it would be a vast improvement for us.

Hi Philipp,

thanks for your feedback, that helps me specify the demand of certain feature which is very useful for prioritizing my development time.

Good luck with your project, looks great! Btw. if you want I can share your video on my socials :-)

Peter

Thanks! I think you already retweeted it a while ago, but feel free to share however you like.

Oh I was just looking for this. It would be incredibly useful to be able to animate layer weight. I understand it's a technical issue, but just in case it does help in any way, I wanted to express how useful that would be for us! :-D

Thank you nonetheless!

I also would love to have the option to animate a layer's blend weight! Please consider it!

Thank you for a great asset!

Please please pleaseeeee, this would help so much
