Infinity PBR Dragon - can't select bones

EdwinWiseOne 3 years ago updated by Peter - Soxware Developer 3 years ago 7

UMotion is good stuff -- but with one wrinkle, I can't grab the bones of the Infinity PBR Dragon model (with a mouse, on a Mac, in the scene window).

Grabbing bones works fine in other contexts, including other Infinity PBR models!  Just the Dragon one doesn't edit.

Weird!  I even made a clean, empty project with just the recent UMotion and the Dragon model, no love.  Nothing useful in the console either.

Any ideas why just that one model wouldn't let me grab bones?

Hi,

thank you very much for your support request.

Interesting, sounds like a bug. You mentioned you've already tried it in a fresh empty Unity project. Any chance you can send it to me so that I can reproduce and eventually fix this issue? You can remove the textures and animations from the model so that it's only use able for the purpose of reproducing this issue.

You can send the project to me via the email support form (either request a link to my Dropbox or upload it to any of your cloud storage services if you have some).

Thank you very much.

Best regards,

Peter

Hi Edwin,

thank you very much for sending me the repo project.

Quick question: Is it not possible for you to select any of the bones of the dragon or are there only specific bones you can't select?

Best regards,
Peter

Another question, are you using an intel based Mac or an M1 based Mac?

Best regards,
Peter

Weird, I commented here ages ago but ... maybe I didn't press send?

I tried selecting a wide range of bones, from the head, neck, harness, ,and legs.

I'm on a Mac M1 processor.

Edwin!

I'm sorry to hear that the forum caused such trouble for you.

I tried selecting a wide range of bones, from the head, neck, harness, ,and legs.

Ok I did some further tests. I tried your project on Windows and on my Intel based Mac. On Windows, selecting bones worked completely flawlessly. On Mac, only bones that are really small on the screen (because the camera is far away) are hard to select. As soon as I move the camera a little closer (so that the bone appear bigger), selecting works great again. Not sure why there is a difference, maybe it's in the screen space to world space coordinate conversion method of Unity...

Does selecting also not work for you if the bones have a decent size on the screen?

I can not reproduce a general issue where I'm not able to select bones on Mac. Are you running the M1 native build of Unity? Is it possible to run the Intel based Unity version on an M1 Mac to see if that makes a difference?

Best regards,
Peter

Weird.  I'm running Native Unity for the Apple Silicon, and the Leg Bone I was trying to select was fairly reasonably sized -- and selecting on OTHER models from this company also worked flawlessly.

I just worked around it by selecting in the list and I don't need to worry about it any more, so we can shelve this issue I guess.

Thanks,

Edwin!

That's weird indeed. I'm going to tag this as not reproduce able for now. Feel free to re-visit this thread in case you're having this issue again.
