Hi,

I need some assistance. I just purchased Umotion and I’m a little confused on now to get started. Ive create all my characters in Blender, with no rigs attacked, and then just “imported new asset” while in blender. The problem I’m having is, even though I have imported the asset, Umotion cannot find the file.

I’ve tried going into Blender and importing with fbx, but I still cannot find the file.

Please let me know if there’s an extra step in missing.

Thanks

Hi,
thank you very much for your support request.

Ive create all my characters in Blender, with no rigs attacked, and then just “imported new asset” while in blender. The problem I’m having is, even though I have imported the asset, Umotion cannot find the file.

  1. Place the *.blend file in your Unity project's "Assets" folder.
  2. You should now see the *.blend file appear in Unity's Project Browser.
  3. (Optional) If you select the file, you can adjust the import settings in the Inspector Window.
  4. Drag&Drop the *.blend file into your scene so that you see your model in Unity.
  5. Create a new UMotion project.
  6. Drag&Drop the model from Unity's Hierarchy window to the Pose Editor.
There are video tutorials that explain the first steps with UMotion. You can find the video tutorials by clicking on "Window / UMotion Editor / Video Tutorials".

Please note that UMotion does not support rigging. So you need to rig your character in Blender. Make sure to check out some video tutorials on youtube how to rig characters in Blender (it's not too difficult).

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Best regards,
Peter

Awesome, thanks for the info.

Yeah I didn’t add I rig, because i was think it would needed to be rigged in Umotion. That makes sense though— I will try your suggestion and let you know the results.

Hi,

I have tried importing a rigged human model multiple times, once from Turbosquid, and once self made on Blender (using fbx and blender format in Unity), with all the required bones which I saw in the sample scene on the Robot.

I always get the following error:

The "Generic" rig of this GameObject doesn't match with the opened project which uses a "Humanoid" rig. Either change the rig type in the models import settings or choose a different GameObject.

Is there a particular way that the bones have to be named and in a particular nested order, and then only it will work? I'm really frustrated.

Awaiting a response.

Thanks.

Hi,
have you changed the animation type of that model to "humanoid"?

You can do this by selecting the model in Unity's Project Window. In the Inspector under the "Rig" tab you can change the animation type.  Make sure that there is a checkmark displayed next to the "Configure..." button, otherwise you need to click on configure and manually correct the bone mapping.

Here you can learn more about Untiy Humanoid and Unity's animation system in general:

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Best regards,
Peter
